To my penny mavins friends... I purchased too many twin size electric blankets from target when they were clearing them out. I have an extra one I would be willing to sell it to you for the 50% off price, if no one is interested I'll just return it. It is made by biddeford and $14.98 + tax and brown in color. If I don't hear from anyone, I'll be returning it Monday the 29th.

Trading Company on Sprague and McDonald has their Town House crackers (like Ritz) on sale 2/4 then they have a $2/2 coupon at the registers so it makes them 1.00 a box. I bought some with the same coupon a few weeks ago at Winco but they were 1.28, so Trading Company has the better deal this week. They have a huge end cap of them right when you walk in. A great stockpiling item for snacks!

Ok, so here's a fun deal. Both Target and Toys R Us are running a promotion on the Toy Story Movies Blu-Ray + DVD combo packs. At Target, they're selling them for 22.99 and Toys R Us is selling them for 21.99.

In the ads it says that if you buy both, you get an extra $10 off which makes the Target price of each $17.99 and the Toys R Us price, $16.99.

Disney Movie Rewards is running a deal that if you've previously owned the Toy Story Movies on DVD or VHS, you get a $10 off coupon when you upgrade. Simply go to www.disneymovierewards.com, login (or register if you haven't already), put the UPC code in the spot where you'd normally enter the movie reward code and then you will be taken to a page with two banners where you can click to print out a coupon for a $10 coupon for whichever Movie you Entered.

I just had a really good shopping trip at Albertson's where I spent $42.46 for $163.72 worth of groceries!

The highlights of this trip were from a Sara Lee pie promotion they're having where you buy 1 pie and get 1 free pie plus 2 free containers of Breyer's Ice cream. That's a great deal alone at $6.39, but you can print off a 2 coupons from redplum.com that give you $1 off any Sara Lee frozen desert and print off 1 coupon from savealot.com where you save $1 on 2 containers of Breyer's. So basically, you end up getting 2 pies and 2 containers of ice cream for $3.39!!

Albertson's also has an in-ad coupon for up to 4 jars of Ragu for 88¢ each. At savealot.com you can also print out 2 Ragu coupons that give you $1 off 2 jars, which makes them 38¢ each!

Campbells Cream of Mushroom...

So, I've become sort of a 'Campbells Cream of.." snob. For some reason, that brand is just creamier and yummier, but it is SO expensive!! Today, while shopping at WinCo, they had a TON of Campbells Cream of Mushroom soup for...58 cents! YEAH!! Now, this was still 8 cents more than the 'generic' Cream of Mushroom soup, but I still think this is an awesome price for Campbells! I just wish their Cream of Chicken was cheap too! :(

I've made my feelings about ShopKo very clear in the past, but I wanted to share what I got in the mail today! I signed up for a FREE ShopKo rewards card that they scan every time I make a purchase and sometimes I get extra discount, but basically it's to track my spendings there so I think they can send me applicable coupons. I get coupons quite often in the mail--a month or so ago, I got one for 10.00 off my 40.00 purchase. TODAY I got a coupon in the mail for 25.00 off my 100.00 purchase AND a coupon for a package of FREE HUGGIES WIPES, no purchase necessary! YEAH! They also told me about their pharmacy plan...when you get 10 prescriptions filled there, you get a 10.00 gift card to spend at ShopKo and I don't think this is a one time offer--so if you get a lot of prescriptions filled, you may want to check out ShopKo! Free stuff is always good!

Planet Beach Continues

Today is day 3 of my free introductory week spa experience at Planet Beach. The Hydro Massage table was great, there is parachute material that holds in the water so I didn't get wet. I laid face down on the table, fully clothed. I love having my face in one of those face cradles, it's so comfortable. The water runs up and down from head to toe. It's warm and you can adjust the pressure. My favorite part was the PAUSE BUTTON, my low back feels so much better. This was a relaxing 20 minutes!

How was that for a title?? HA HA, for my friends out there, no I am NOT pregnant, just found a killer deal on Prego. It is of course my spaghetti sauce of choice!! While at Walmart this morning, they are clearing out many items they used to carry. Right now they are selling 14 oz bottles of Prego for ......get this $0.50 each. Ok so the large bottles we are used to buying are 26 oz bottles. So it is equivalent to $1.00 for a large bottle. I never see it this cheap. The best price I can usually find on sale is $1.67. So you can find the display 2 aisles down from the normal spaghetti sauce aisle on an end cap. Lasagna anyone?

Often, Trading Co Stores will have their meat on clearance because it needs to be frozen. Well, today I was there and noticed that their sausage had 1.00 off on them AND a 55 cent off coupon on them as well. They were on sale for 2.27, so after the 1.00 off and the 55 cent off coupon, they were....drumroll please....72 cents each!!! YEAH!

It's Thursday, I've totally scored some deals this week and I'm exhausted! Does anyone else get exhausted from finding deals, making a plan, executing the plan, saving the money, taking the pictures for their blog, planning the next trip, yada, yada, yada?! But I can't stop!

New strategy for posts- just say how much I paid total. Easy for me, easy for you to read.

Wal-Greens Aprx. $11.00 for two cases of water, 4 packs of pens, 2 packs of hi-liters and one bottle of (yummy smelling) baby wash!

Rite-Aid Aprx. $5 (after rebates) for a bottle of (much needed) Shout and an M5 Razor. There is only one cartridge in the razor, so hopefully it lasts awhile. I've printed off about 5 of the M5 coupons, so I'm hoping to find a better deal soon on these.

Staples Aprx. $3.45 (after rebates) for two packs of copy paper, 2 packs of highlighters, one pack of dry erase markers and 6 (wide-ruled, oops) notebooks.

My little bro came with me on this one and also scored on this deal! I'm all about spreading the money-saving love!

That's counting the $5 off your next purchase Catalina that printed, the $2 coupon for doing the phone survey and the $20 mail-in rebate.

In other words: I paid $19 out of pocket, but will use the $5+$2+$20= $27 for future trips to Albertson's! Pretty cool!
In case you can't tell from the picture: one case of Dasani 24 pack of water, 8 boxes (including one Spiderman cause I'm a cool mom) of mac + cheese, 2 boxes of Velveeta Shells, 4 bottles of Mayo, 1 box of Crackerfuls, 2 boxes of Jell-O, 2 containers of cream cheese, bananas, lettuce, and green onions!

I also brought my brother along so their household could score on this deal AND I filled out the rebate form for my mom! I'm so cool.

SUMMARY:

I got a start into this deal by my husband doing the first shopping trip :). I spent about $56 on the food pictured. I've sent in my mail-in rebate form for the Kellog's deal. That should be 10 bucks coming my way in 6-8 weeks after processing :) THAT's LIKE $46 for all that food :) !

So here is the new deal Albertsons rolled out this week. This ad was in the Sunday paper, it runs Aug 2nd-8th(Sat). It has lots of products that you can pair with coupons found on coupon.com right now. The deal reads when you spend $30.00 on participating products get $15.00. It will print (3) $5.00 Catalinas. I ran into a little trouble this morning doing this deal, for my first transaction it would not print out the $15.00 worth of catalinas, we realized if you purchase only the products in this deal it will NOT print. You have to add a non-deal item to trigger the catalina. But they do roll!!

So after 3 transactions, 3 sets of catalinas + coupons here is my haul.
Total savings after coupons, preferred savings,doublers=$129.02
Total OOP=$36.93+$15.00 worth of catalinas for my next trip= 1 happy momma

I purchased 5 and the coupon thingy printed out 1.50 off 8 coupon, so I went back and bought 8 more, used my coupon--so I got 8 for 6.50 and got another coupon...so I did it again! So I got 21 Lean Cuisines for 18.00 making them 88 cents each! Wahoo! I don't know how long this sale is going on, so you'd better hurry! Oh, and it was for ALL Lean Cuisines--even the panini sandwiches, the ones with desserts, etc. ONE of mine didn't ring up right, but the lady fixed it because the sale didn't exclude ANY of them!

The past two times I've gone to Trading Co. on Sprague and McDonald, they have had big bags of browning bananas for 99 cents a bag (I think there is around 4-5 lbs of bananas in each bag). Since you can freeze bananas, this is a great buy and you will always have bananas for banana bread or banana muffins or even smoothies! I also got a TON of discounted meat there yesterday that needed to be frozen within the next couple of days. I got about 15 rolls of sausage for between 1.27 and 1.47 a piece, which is a GREAT price, because I rarely find it under 2.00.

My onions on the other hand are nothing to brag about, they started flowering and stopped growing. This is my harvest of about 45 walla walla onion starts, I just don't know what happened to them this year. Last year I planted 1/2 as much, yielded twice as many as this year and they were big and beautiful. I love sweet onions!

I've turned Carrie's beautiful cilantro into salsa. I can't believe she planted seeds! I planted a cilantro starter plant last year and the critters ate it all! Thank you Carrie! For those of you that have never made homemade salsa, let me share how I do it. Besides Christmas this is my favorite time of year because I love fresh homemade salsa!

Now I don't use exact measurements, it's all about checking the taste for the right amounts:

fresh cilantro chopped, about 1/2 of the bunch (I take the stems off)

2 - 3 tomatoes chopped or 1 can of diced tomatoes

1 clove garlic

1/2 an onion chopped

1/2 can of black beans (rinsed)

lime juice (maybe 3 teaspoons give or take)

salt & pepper to taste

mexican seasoning ( taco mix packet works great) about a tablespoon

Saving Money Tips

Recently, Adam and I have been looking for ways to lower our monthly bills. I've done several things:

I called our internet/phone/tv provider to see if there was any way that they could save me money. By tweaking our plan a bit, I was able to save around $35.00 a month! He gave me DVR free for 6 months, we lowered our TV plan so we have less channels, and we got rid of our long distance (we have cell phones for that) and voice mail as well.

Next, I called our auto/homeowners insurance to see what we could do to cut costs there. Lo and behold, I had forgotten that I had added a TON of medical coverage at a time when we didn't have health insurance! Now that we have health insurance, I was able to lower that covereage and I may even get rid of it completely. My insurance agent (FABULOUS guy to work with if you ever need a recommendation) spent a lot of time going over all of our coverage and explaining to me what everything means. He WANTED me to save money, but still have the coverage we needed. Also, about every 6 months or so, I call other insurance agency's to get a quote to see if they can save me money. This may take a little bit of time, but its worth it if you can find a way to save money! By making this call, I probably saved us another 25-35 a month!

Next, I called a life insurance agent that was recommended to me by a friend. He will be coming over next week to see if his company is cheaper than the one we currently have. Also, we will be purchasing a small whole life insurance policy for our new baby. We always do this for our babies, but have been a little slow at getting it for our newest addition. 2 weeks ago, my sister's in-laws baby that is the same age as my little guy, died from SIDS. I'm sure they probably didn't have life insurance on him, so it just made me want to kick it into high gear and get cracking! The odds are that my children won't need it...but WHAT IF?? Life insurance is SO important and I think everyone needs it! Its affordable and is there just in case some tragedy happens!

We have also looked into re-financing our home, which could potentially save us 100.00 a month!

Another way we just saved money is by paying for our medical bills in full within 30 days. Most of the places I called were willing to give us a 10% discount for what they call 'prompt pay'. This has saved us hundreds of dolloars over the past few months with having a baby and also being in the hospital for a kidney stone!

By doing these SMALL things, we have saved A TON of money! What have you done and what changes have you made in your life to save money? Please share!

Hi girls, while at Albies today they have an unadvertised special on milk at the store on 32nd and highway 27. They have over-stock so have reduced the price to $1.25 a gallon, and the expiration date is good till July 20th. There is no limit.

Another good deal I came across is their Cottonelle TP. It is on sale for $5.49 use a $1.00 off coupon found at Winco and doubler from Albies found in the pinch or sunday paper making them $3.49. A good stock up price.

Disney's A Christmas Carol Train Tour in Spokane Today Only!

Food Storage Recipe - Cornbread

We keep popcorn in our food storage. One of the things we like to do with it is to grind it in our wheat grinder for cornmeal. This is a simple recipe give it a try!

Easy Cornbread

1 cup cornmeal

1 cup flour

1/3 cup sugar

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1 cup milk

1/4 cup vegetable shortening

Combine dry ingredients, add milk, egg and shortening. Beat until smooth. Bake on greased 8 inch square baking pan 425 degrees for 20 -25 minutes

Maple Glazed Chicken & Bacon Skewers

I found this recipe on the Cooking During Stolen Moments blog, we are trying this at our house tonight. I thought you all might like this recipe too!

Maple Glazed Chicken & Bacon Skewers

1 lb. Chicken breasts, cut into one inch cubes
10 - 12 slices bacon (In the picture above, I used turkey bacon. It was just as delicious as plain bacon.)
10 - 12 bamboo skewers (soak in water for 30 minutes first)
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 c. Maple syrup
3 T. butter or margarine
1 t. ground ginger, optional

1. Thread chicken and bacon onto skewers. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

2. In a small saucepan, combine maple syrup, butter or margarine, and optional ginger. Heat over low heat until it comes to a slow boil. Glaze the chicken and bacon skewers with the syrup. Reserve any remaining sauce.

3. Grill the skewers, broil or bake at 375 degrees for about 25 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked. Occasionally baste the skewers with the reserved sauce as they cook.

Some people have asked how long strawberries will be on at Green Bluff, According to their grower's calendar it looks like strawberries will last until mid July.

This was our first trip to Knapp's farm, it was nice that they drove us out to the picking fields on golf carts. Our girls enjoyed petting and feeding the ponies at the farm.

A Canning Tool Worth Having

After 2 years of searching I finally found the Magnetic Lid Wand at Winco and it was less than $2.00! Winco has a nice selection of canning supplies on aisle 10B.

This magnet will only pick up one seal at a time, it's so much better than using tongs or trying to scoop up a hot seal with a fork. I'm so HAPPY I found this little gem, I just wanted to share!

Strawberries at Grrenbluff

Today the whole family went strawberry picking at Knapp's farm, Greenbluff. We filled these 4 baskets with almost 15 lbs. of strawberries at 99¢ a pound.

They taste as delicious as they look, I've never eaten a strawberry before that melts in my mouth! We have finished the freezer jam (first time for me), now we will cook a batch of jam and we also have some whole in the freezer for smoothies. We had a good day!

Hi ladies, I get so upset when a company has employees which enforce different rules which can make life miserable for some of us. So I called the manager this morning at Albertsons to clarify what IS THEIR POLICY? He called headquarters to make sure he was giving me correct information. So as of today June 10th this is the policy so here goes........We will only be allowed to use 3 doubler coupons per shopping trip. No more multiple transactions. If we want to use more than 1 set of doublers in a given trip to the store you will have to go take transaction #1 to your car return to the store and complete your next transaction. There is NOT a limit per household on how many doublers you can use in any given week. You just can't have multiple transactions. I guess according to Greg the manager on 32nd and Highway 27 there have been several complaints from other customers that when multiple transactions are being made with coupons it holds up the line too much. So they have come out with this new policy. So if any cashier tells you that you can only use 3 doublers per household per week, they are mistaken and ask to speak to a manager, I hope this helps.

Disappointing day at Albertsons

I have always loved to shop at Albertsons but today might have just put me over the edge...... I am checking out, I have separated my groceries into two transaction b/c I have 6 Dbl coupons provided by Albertsons via newspaper & ad at Customer Service Desk. The Checkout Clerk says to me, "Just to let you know, in the near future you will only be able to use 3 coupons per household and it will be tracked through your Preferred Savings Card." Oh my gosh, give me a break!!!! The Clerk looked at me as though I have been taking advantage of the store and now they made rules so that I won't. I said, "Seriously??" And the Clerk told me that someone used like 70 double coupons and that is why the changes are coming. Okay... BIG difference between using 6 coupons in two transactions and this so-called 70 double coupons.
Okay, okay.... maybe I am a little bitter about this and just needed to vent. Ugh!!

Garage Sale

I hope it's okay that I post this on here, but I will be having a big garage sale this Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th - 9am to 5 pm (ish) if you are around the North Side. We are building a new house and so I am going thru everything and figuring out what I want to keep and not keep. I am changing some of my home decor - I used to have my basement done in the log cabin look so I have a bunch of that type of stuff - ie large Canoe Shelf, Log queen bed, log endtable, large double recliner chair with fishing theme - lots of pictures, mirrors, bears, creels, lamps, moose ect. You name it - I probably have it if it was along those lines. So if you are into that type of decor - check out my sale because its all great stuff. I also have a really cool couch I am selling if you like Victorian style - like I said, I am just changing some of my decor for the new house. All is in excellent shape. Other things sold will be some nice kids toys and odds and ends. I will also be selling a portion of my stock pile - mostly health and beauty stuff, but this will be really cheap as I just need to clear some room.

Just wanted to let you all know that I was at Safeway last night and they have a blinkie coupon for BOGO M&M, Twix, Snickers, MilkyWay, 3 Musketeers, or Dove single pack candies. They are located back by the milk on the door. Currently they have buy 2 get one free store sale on these candy bars. I got 12 candy bars and only paid for 2 with the store sale and coupons. They are good 6/28/09 and Safeway has buy 3 get 3 free lots of times - so in this scenerio - they would ALL be free!! YUM! I like to have these things on hand for "bribes" with my kiddos! :-) (Or for me!) Anyway - FYI.

I found a new website this weekend, Everyday Food Storage. She suggest substituting black beans pureed for half the oil in brownie mixes to reduce fat and increase fiber and protein. I tried this today and no one in my family could tell the difference! It really tasted just like the brownies normally taste. I've enjoyed reading this website and finding new ideas to try.

My Bath and Body Works foaming hand soap dispenser was empty so my husband filled it with 3/4 water and 1/4 of regular liquid soap and SURPRISE it foamed right on cue. Now of course it doesn't have the amazing fragrance of a Bath and Body Works soap but for the moment its just fine!

Layered Green Salad

Chop the following ingredients:

1 head of iceberg lettuce

3 stalks of celery

3 green onions

1 can of watercress nuts

Add half a bag of frozen petite peas, mix (layer) all the vegetables.

Top with 3/4 cup mayonnaise, sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar and cover. Let the salad dressing set and it will marinate through the salad.

As we all know, Albertsons is remodeling and thus clearancing out a TON of stuff. Well, today I was there and they were JUST putting out signs on 3 big boxes of make up--FIFTY CENTS! They had Maybellene, L'oreal and lots of other great brands and it had barely been picked through! I spent 12.50 and got enough make-up to last me a LONG time! They also had a ton of fingernail polish! YAY! Oh, the boxes were at the back of the store.

Albertsons CapriSun, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, Chips Ahoy bargain

At the far end of the row of registers at Albertson's, there is a display with CapriSun, Mac & Cheese 5 packs, and Chips Ahoy cookies. There's also a sign that says buy two of each of these all together and pay $7.67 for all of it! This is a great bargain.

Here's how you do it. The Mac and cheese 5 pack is buy one at $5.69, get another one free. On each of the 5 packs is a peel off coupon for a free box of their new Morning-something-or-other CapriSun (The cashier will let you get any flavor of this)--so you get two of those for free with your two boxes of Mac and Cheese. Then at the cash registers they have coupons for $2.00 off a $2.99 package of Chips ahoy which makes them 99¢ each. You have to ask the cashier for these coupons.

I did it twice and spent 15.34 for everything in the picture! My total savings was $32.14!

Oh, and one more thing, I had a register receipt kick out for 2.00 off my next purchase. I don't know what triggered it, but it's possible that I could have done this in two purchases and gotten $2.00 of my second purchase making my out of pocket on this trip even less (and had another 2.00 for my next trip). If anyone does this, you might try doing one transaction per set and see what kind of Catalina prints out.

I combined high volume coupons with the doubler coupons to get ALL of this in 4 transactions (using 12 doubler coupons) for....drumroll please.....5.85!!! WOO HOO!! That's right, 3 boxes of Ritz, 3 boxes of Wheat Thins, 2 bags of cheese, a package of Hershey's bars, a box of Grahm Crackers, a bag of marshmallows, Capri Sun, V8 and tic tacs (I accidentally had an overage of 7 cents on one transaction and had to grab a filler really quick!) NOT BAD!

A New Clothes Dryer

So I posted about saving for a new dryer awhile ago. We researched about proper venting and found out that the plastic accordion tubing was no longer approved for use. We also learned that any accordion style of tube allowed for lint build up. This saturday my husband replaced our old venting with a smooth galvanized metal 4 inch pipe, it runs 8 feet up from our basement and then 18 feet under our deck. No wonder it took at least 3 cycles to dry a load of towels. With the new pipes our loads now dry in ONE cycle! This was about a $40.00 investment, someday we will buy a new dryer but for now I am so happy with our success!

Wondering what I'm doing with all this money we're saving at the grocery store? Well let me share! I am saving up to buy a NEW kenmore elite clothes dryer! TaDa! This will be my first NEW dryer, the one we are using now was purchased used about 15 years ago (and we think it was about 20 years old then!). I've saved about 1/4 of the cash we will need but we will get there before too long!

So my out of pocket (oop) expense at Albertsons tonight was $14.37 with the retail price being $96.04. Had I been on my game I would have used a $10 of $50 coupon and only had $4.37 oop, ARG! So let me explain: every item had a $1.00 off coupon printed from the internet, then I used 3 doubling coupons. The kraft deal of spend $10.00 get $3.00 off instantly, did that 4 times. The BBQ sauce gave me a $2.00 catalina (I used it on a second transaction right after my first). Also the Premium saltines are on sale for .99 cents which made them free. That about sums it up. It's great to network with friends, Carrie really helped me put this shopping trip together. I appreciate Crystal's (frugal chic living) reminder last weekend for the mail carrier food drive. I was able to fill a bag from my pantry, because we have plenty I was able to share. It's a nice feeling!

There are 3 doubling coupons for Albertsons from the Sunday paper, plus section B, the last page (Northwest) of the Spokesman Review has a $10 off of a $50 purchase at Albertsons. My plan is to use 3 of the manufacturers cottonelle coupons (Liz told us about them at Winco), double those for $2 off the $6.99 sale price of the 12 double roll package. Regular price for this toilet paper is over $11 and I will be buying them for $4.99 a package!

Now is a great time to check coupons.com, they have a lot of $1.00 off coupons right now.

Here is a deal for all you families who eat lots of cereal. This week Fred Meyer has a coupon for $1.50 for many cereals including all flavors of frosted mini wheats, corn pops, raisin bran, frosted flakes maybe a few others. Well if you go to Kelloggs.com you can print $1.00 off coupons for all of these cereals and it lets you print them twice so you can stack your fred meyer coupon and the manufacture coupons and get each box for $0.50 each. They still have ads at the front of the store too so if you didn't get a Sunday paper or just want another set of coupons hurry in before they are gone.

I was at Winco tonight and by the produce section they had a HUGE display of Cottonelle Toilet paper with a TON of boxes filled with 1.00 off Cottonelle (4 pack or larger) coupons so I grabbed a bunch. Their 12 double roll packs were 5.98 I think, so it would make them 4.98 with the coupon, but I'm saving mine for a better sale!

I Spent 8.32 at Albertsons!!

Thanks to Frugal Chic Living, I got an AMAZING deal on Old El Paso refried beans and enchalada sauce! They are on sale for 8/$10, and when you spend $10, you automatically get $4 off at the register.
Well, back in the beer section (I felt very out of place going down that aisle :) was where the coupons were supposed to be, but they actually had several baskets set up with different items that had coupons attached to them--one of the baskets had the refried beans with $1/2 Old El Paso products coupons, so I grabbed 8 refried beans, then went and got 8 enchalada sauces--and did two seperate transactions-Bought 8 ($10) got $4 off ($6), then gave 4 $1/2 coupons making it 2.00 for all 8 canspREPEAT. On my way out, they had a bunch of 'clearance' baskets and they had these bodywashes for 1.00 so I bought all 4 of them! It pays to check clearance baskets!! I was pretty happy with my purchases tonight!
